Holt, S. (1999) Sunrise' yellow noise. [Composition]
Abstract
For soprano and orchestra, duration 12 minutes. Sunrise' yellow noise is a setting of an Emily Dickinson poem and was commissioned by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Southbank Centre, Birmingham. First performed in March 2000 by Lisa Milne (soprano) and the CBSO conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. This piece was the subject of a one-hour South Bank Show TV documentary in July 2000, and won Le Prix de la Fondation Prince Pierre, Monaco in 2001. It is Part 1 of the cycle 'A ribbon of time' which takes the poetry of Emily Dickinson as its starting point.
