Holt, S. (2001) Startled grass. [Composition]
Abstract
For female chorus (6 sopranos and 6 altos with a handbell each), 2 percussionists, harp and solo cello, duration 11 minutes. This piece was commissioned by the BBC, and first performed on 29 November 2001 by the BBC Singers conducted by Stephen Betteridge at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. It is the fifth and final part of the cycle 'A ribbon of time' which takes the poetry of Emily Dickinson as its starting point.
